SPECIAL STORY ON WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY

RAIPUR| Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young adults worldwide. There has been an increase in the rates of suicide in India over the years. If we see the high ratio of self-destruction cases across Chhattisgarh is 27.7% (according to 2015 NCRB Report), stress and mental harassment is the main reason behind the suicidal cases. Highest suicide cases are from the age group of 14 to 29 years.

The suicide of farmers is very high

Farmer suicide cases are also high in the country. A total of 12,602 persons (consisting of 8007 farmers/cultivator and 4595 Agricultural laborers) committed suicide in all over the country during 2015, in which 1,344 farmers committed suicide in Chhattisgarh. The approximate figures of the state capital is nearly about 25-30 farmers. The overall cases registered in the year 2015-16 in Chhattisgarh is 14,705.

The highest rate of suicide in Durg Bhilai  

Moreover, Durg-Bhilai has also reported the highest rate of suicide 34.9%. Surprisingly, it is more than 10.6% at the National Average rate. Along with this, countless causes of suicides like Family Problems, Illness, Unemployment, Love affairs, Education, Drug Abuse/Addiction and the list is never-ending.

Suicides can be avoided with one Phone Call

On the Occasion of “World Suicide Prevention Day” (Working Together to Prevent Suicide) on 10th September helpful steps have been taken to prevent suicides.  Various organizations such as Medical & Counseling Center, Doctors and through some helplines organize events all over Chhattisgarh.  Other states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Odisha have also begun implementing helpline 104, to ensure intervention and subsequently counsel people with suicidal tendencies.

Government has stopped updating suicidal case

Apart from these figures, it is very surprising that for the last 3-4 years (2015-16) the *MHA & C.G Government has stopped updating (suicidal case) figures in the NCRB & CG police Official Site.
