[Special Story on International Day of Democracy]

Raipur| On the occasion of International Day of Democracy 15 September 2019, a round-table discussion(conference) held at the auditorium of Hotel Hyatt in Raipur around 10am. The British Deputy High Commission, Kolkata, and the Chhattisgarh newspaper invited the journalists to make event successful.On this auspicious event, a senior journalist from Kolkata, Swati Bhattacharjee gave her presence to discuss on media freedom and principled reporting with the journalists came from all over the state.

In this day provides an opportunity to analyse that democracy is about people. The purpose of promoting, supporting and to allow raising public awareness. Democracy generates the natural environment for the protection and effective realization of human rights. Hence, in democracy it gives us the rule, which ought to be- “of the people, by the people and for the people” to increase public awareness about democracy.

Theme of the International Day of Democracy, 2019:

The theme of the International Day of Democracy 2019 is ‘Participation’. As stated by the UN (United Nations), to raise public awareness about democracy. Various activities and events are held around the world to promote democracy on this date.
Democracy is basically developed on involvement, equal individuality and participation.

Many organizations, including government and non-government agencies, create various enterprise to promote democracy on the International Day of Democracy. Events and proceedings which includes conferences, press conferences and discussions.

The UN (United Nation) strives to achieve its goals of peace, human rights and development. They believes that human rights and the rule of law are best protection in democratic societies.

History:

The UN General Assembly decided to make 15 September to observe the International Day of Democracy annually on 8 November, 2007. On this day, the assembly stimulate people and many organisations to immortalize the International Day of Democracy. In 2008, UN General Assembly recognized the year and marked it as the International Day of Democracy. By this, the people got a chance to come forward, promote and unite democracy.
