Raipur. Kalinga University is not only one of the leading universities of Chhattisgarh but of Central India also. Kalinga University always conduct so many programmes for students and faculties on current events and on academic betterment.

Kalinga University has established Prof. Amartya Sen Chair named in honour of the Indian economist, philosopher and Nobel laureate. Under this, the Faculty of Commerce and Management organised one day seminar on “The Socio-Economic Status of Backward Classes in India.

This seminar highlighted the social, economic and cultural conditions of the people belonging to backward classes and minority of India.The program started with the welcoming of the guest speaker  Baldau Ram Sahu (Former Secretary, Chhattisgarh Backward Classes Commission) and  Rajesh Tiwari (Deputy Secretary, Social Welfare Department). A. Naga Ramani, Asst Prof. and faculty incharge started the session with her views.

Various experts in this field shared their views in this seminar which are as below:

Rajesh Tiwari (Deputy Secretary, Social Welfare Department) shared his views and said youth development plays a vital role in social welfare. He further shared his views on government initiatives for third gender and commented about how youth can make a society a better place for third gender.

Baldav Ram Sahu (Former secretary, Chhattisgarh Backward Commission) threw light on various issuesregarding lack of data of backward classes who are still illiterate and not been able to walk paralleled with the development of the country. He further added that schools and colleges can play a vital role in educating the students in a way that theycan become independent, not only contributing in economic development but also in welfare of the society.

He commented that, feudal thinking is the reason behind under development of backward classes, butnow the time has been changing and government has been supporting for their development.

He concluded with youth play an important role in changing and development of society with unity and diversity.

The event was conveyed by A. Naga Ramani and all the faculty members along with Dr. Monika Sethi Dean of Commerce & Management were present in the event.
