Raipur : The Department of Physical Education successfully organized a Badminton Tournament for the students of Kalinga University on 1-2 April 2022 at Badminton Court of Kalinga University. Large numbers of students took part in the badminton tournament.  The tournament was played on knock out basis.

Two days tournament was inaugurated by Dr. R Sridhar, Vice Chancellor of Kalinga University and Guest of honour was Dr. Asha Ambhaikar, Dean Student Welfare (DSW).  Dr. Rakesh Bharti. Director Sports in Kalinga University welcomed the participants.

In his inaugural speech Dr. Sridhar, appreciated the efforts made by the department of sports despite scorching heat. He said it is great to have this kind of celebration in the form of sport event in University which gave him an opportunity to have an eye to eye contact with students.  He opined that sports bring so many things and values like unity, discipline, leadership skills and intrapersonal skills among sports persons.  In entire Chhattisgarh he served in many colleges and came to know that sport is the most neglected subject in colleges of state. In Kalinga University under the leadership of Dr. Rakesh Bharti sports activities are being promoted rigorously to introduce youthfulness energy to the youths of Chhattisgarh. He expressed hope that the sports persons of Kalinga University would one day become torch bearer in Chhattisgarh.  He extended best wishes to the participants of the sports event. 

Large numbers of students took part in the event with enthusiasm and huge numbers of students were present to witness the badminton competition.  In boys singles 103 players took part while 25 participants were in girl’s singles, 23 in boy’s doubles and 11 in girl’s doubles. Many students witnessed the event through online mode. 

The event was a great success as the participants came in huge numbers and with greater enthusiasm. There is a saying, “Practice makes a man perfect”. The same was observed in most of the players who participated. It was a wonderful display of talent. They took up the challenge and gave their best when it matters the most. There were some nail-biting finishes. The crowd lightened up the event. Huge crowd gathered to support the contestants. They weren’t disappointed as they got to experience some wonderful display of talent.

Dr. A Vijayanand, Chief Proctor of Kalinga University distributed prizes to the winners and young talent. Mr. Dheeraj Singh, DEE outshines in boys singles event, Ms. MonalisaKhatun of Law outshines in Girls singles event.  Winners of Boys double event are Mr. Alankrit of B.Tech Civil and Mr. Nitin Yadav of BALLB. In Girls Doubles winners are Ms. MonalisaKhatun of Law and Swagatika of Physical Education. Mr. Aman Kumar of B.Sc was Runner up in Boys singles, Ms. RajniToppo of Physical Education was runner up in Girls Singles.  Mr. Hardik of BBA and Mr. Aditya Raj of Diploma in Civil Engineering was runner up of Boys doubles. Ms. Avni andMs.Karishma both from Law department were runner-ups in Girls doubles. The sports event left an everlasting good impression on the minds of spectators after Covid-19 pandemic.
