Kalinga University Organized Awareness Program on “World Hypertension Day”

Naya Raipur. To create awareness of Hypertension Dr. R. Shridhar, Vice-Chancellor of Kalinga University gave a very inspiring speech on how to lead a healthy life and avoid hypertension.  The program was organized by the Dean Students Welfare department on the occasion of “World Hypertension Day” on 17th May 2022 (Tuesday).

Mr. KapilKelkar, Head of the Fashion Designing Department gave the welcome speech. Dr. Asha Ambhaikar, Dean of Student Welfare welcomed the Chief Guest.  In his address, Dr. R Shridhar, Vice-Chancellor of Kalinga University shared his experience and briefed him about the symptoms, causes and methods for the prevention of Hypertension. He informed that Hypertension is a disease of the Artery that gets shrunk and affects the flow of blood which leads to over functioning of the heart.  It can occur at any age in the modern day. Earlier it was considered to be an old age disease which proved to be a myth in modern-day. Due to the modern lifestyle stress level has increased.

He further informed that a normal blood pressure level should be 120/80 and in present days a fluctuation of +/- 5% is considered to be normal. Hypertension is also known as a silent killer disease as it affects the Liver, Kidney, heart and other organs of the body. It may cause blood clotting and lead to paralysis in any part of the body.  Stress is caused due to low level of oxygen in the blood, he added.  Another cause is obesity. It is becoming common among children due to lack of physical sports and excess use of mobile games children gain weight.  Belly fat is one of the symptoms of obesity which can be controlled by 45 minutes of brisk walking daily. Yoga for 15-20 minutes can be a good option he added.

One of the symptoms of stress could be a pain in the back of the head or a pinching sensation, Vertigo, blurred vision, feeling lethargic, and sleeplessness could be some of the other symptoms.  The imbalance of Sodium and Potassium causes stress which can be balanced by regular intake of bananas, guava, tomato, etc. one should avoid, fried/ junk foods, smoking, tobacco, etc. 

Dr. Shridhar advised that one should one a year get an ECG test done and get blood pressure checked twice a year for early detection of Hypertension or other ailments. Blood Pressure, Diabetes, and thyroids are diseases which cannot be cured completely they can only be managed. One should take care of their health and follow a healthy lifestyle, he added.

Dr. Shilpi Bhattacharya, Dean of Arts and Humanities proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. Asha Ambhaikar, Dr. A Vijayanand, Dr. OP Dewangan, Mr.KapilKelkar, Dr.SmitaPremanand, Dr. Rakesh Bharti, Dr. Khushboo and others were present during the awareness programme.
